There are many kinds of raw materials for carbon additive, and the production processes are also different. There are woody carbon, coaly carbon, coke, graphite, etc., and there are many small types under various classifications. High-quality carburizing agents generally refer to graphitized carburizing agents. Under high temperature conditions, the arrangement of carbon atoms is in the microscopic form of graphite, so it is called graphitization. Graphitization can reduce the content of impurities in the recarburizer, increase the carbon content of the recarburizer, and reduce the sulfur content.
There are many sources of carburizers and different forms, and the price varies greatly depending on the processing technology and composition. The traditional smelting method is similar to the cupola smelting: using pig iron, recycled materials, scrap steel, ferroalloys, etc. as the metal charge; the new synthetic cast iron production process: using scrap steel as the charge, and using a carburizing agent to adjust the carbon equivalent of the molten iron. The latter method of production makes it easier to guarantee high-quality molten iron, and at the same time reduces the cost by using less or replacing pig iron with scrap steel. Generally speaking, with the use of carburizing agents, we can use the worst (scrap) to make the best (castings).
